You Are In The Marketing Business and You Need a Marketing Campaign
Selling your services in the real world: To be as successful as possible, you must be able to keep a steady stream of clients flowing into your practice.
Okay, we've already established that having excellent skills is important but does very little to actually bring clients into your practice. And, we've also established that you'll need to learn how to market effectively if you want your practice to be as profitable as possible.
But let's take it one step further. Because there's another crucial point that I want to burn into your brain:
You are not just in one business; you are actually in two businesses. In addition to being in a service business, you are also in a marketing business – so you need a marketing campaign.
That's right. Starting right now, you need to make a shift in your attitude. You need to realize that marketing your services is every bit as important as providing your services.
Because, quite simply, if you can't keep a steady flow of clients coming into your practice, you'll never be as successful as you really want to be. Without clients, there is no business.
Also, clients come and go. Few clients will need your services forever. That's just the way business works. People move, change jobs, or retire, or company policy changes – so many of your clients of today will not be your clients tomorrow. That's just the reality of being in business.
So the need to continue to market your services never goes away. You must keep bringing in new clients to replace those clients who no longer do business with you – just to keep everything even. And if you want to grow, if you want to build equity and a thriving, long-term business, you'll need to bring in even more clients… And learn how to do more business with the clients you already have.
You will constantly be working to improve your marketing, to get more results for the same (or even less) investment of your marketing dollars.
So get used to the fact that you are a marketing business. And the better you market, the easier it will be to thrive and grow.
