A Sample Marketing Plan - Your Ideal Client Profile
Here's a sample of an actual Ideal Client Profile that will demonstrate how to create your own profile. It's the Ideal Client Profile I once used for my own business.
Before I became a marketing consultant, I was a direct response copywriter. What follows is the actual Ideal Client Profile I created for my copywriting business.
You might be wondering why I'm giving you an old Ideal Client Profile rather than my current Ideal Client Profile. The answer is very simple: I never reveal my current Ideal Client Profile to anyone other than my employees (who need to know it in order to do their jobs as effectively as possible).
You see, this information is so critical to the success of my business, and it gives me such a pronounced advantage, I don't want any of my competitors to ever see it. And I advise you to carefully guard your own Ideal Client Profile as well.
Here's the Ideal Client Profile I developed for my former business as a direct response copywriter:
My Ideal Client is either a marketing manager for medium- to large-+sized corporations that mail at least one million pieces annually, or a creative director for ad agencies that service the above corporations. These corporations do business in the United States and Canada and want to maximize their direct marketing results in an ever-competitive and more crowded market.
The greatest problem my Ideal Client faces is expanding market share against stiff competition. This can best be achieved by clearly distinguishing the advantages of their product over their competitors'. The single factor that's most important in winning new clients is previous success with other similar clients. The best way to reach my clients is to contact them through direct mail using trade association listings. The image I must present is a creative professional who can deliver exceptional copy on time and on budget.
Doesn't leave much to the imagination, does it? Everything you need to know about my Ideal Client is covered in two tight paragraphs. There's no filler or extra baggage. It precisely defines all of the critical characteristics I needed to maximize my ability to do business with this particular segment.
